Skin conditions

Whilst learning to be a makeup artist you need to be aware of different skin conditions that may be presented to you. These conditions can range from acne to ezcema. Different preperations and types of makeup will need to be used to suit the clients needs.

For example, with acne, a serum may be applied to the face to protect the skin from it becoming more contaminated by the makeup. The skin should also be cleansed every day and medication may be required, depending on the severity of the condition. With ezcema, the skin should be properly moustiurised before makeup is applied as it may irritate the skin. A deep moisturising lotion could be used daily to treat the condition and reduce the dryness of the skin.

My college experience so far...

So far, I am really enjoying my college course this year. I think I am doing quite well however, it is, in my opinion, much more difficult than last year turned out to be, but I am enjoying it much more as I feel it is more creative and artistic, especially my special effects and character makeup class.

Even though I am enjoying it, I feel I struggle a bit with the classes that I enjoy the most. Which can be a bit frustrating, and I also feel that the classes I'm best at, are the ones I least enjoy such as hairdressing. I love the enviroment in college and the people I work with and I feel I am doing well and hopefully I will progress more as the course gets on :)

Curriculum for Excellence.

In college, we participate in the Curriculum for Excellence (CfE)which helps us be better learners and can help in the future, after education. It identifies four purposes that anables young people to be successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributers.

Our special effects class is linked to CfE because it helps us develop our skills and make us confident and proud in our work. This is because you have to be commited in special effects and have an open mind on what you are trying to create. This also helps us become successful because we are practicing in order to create a total look.

Our hairdressing class is linked to CfE because it can help us be responsible citizens by being respectful and proffessional in the enviroment. This is due to us having to work on other people and this will also build our confidence because we have to work to the clients needs and can build our understanding of different people, whilst at the same time building our skills.

Our character makeup class is linked to CfE because it helps our confidence and skills because we are practicing different techniques and again, dealing with different people. It also helps us be respectful of other people in regards to needs and products we use.

Our wig class is linked to CfE because it helps us be successful in that proffession. Even though we aren't nessasarily working with people as much, the individual attention can help us progress much more than some of the other classes.

Overall, all of my classes this year can help be progress to be an effective contributer in the future by helping us get the correct skills to get a successful job in the future, as well as helping us build confidence .

Halloween Makeup :)

A halloween makeup I would like to re-create would be 

Sugar Skull

This look originates from Day Of the Dead and can be used as a Halloween look. I love it because it is so different than a usual skull look. I would create it by applying white face paint all over the full face. Then use black grease paint or another dark colour to add shading to the skull. Then using different colours and techniques, create the flowers, hearts, crosses or anything else desired on the skull and set the look with translucent powder. Glitter and gems can be applied to the face also :) 

Another Halloween look I would like to create would be a

Zombie 

I love this classic Halloween look because there is so much you can do with it and many products to use. I would re-create this look by applying white face paint to the entire face and using dark colours for shading and around the eyes and mouth. Fake blood can be applied around the mouth and special effects makeup such as cuts and scars to any desired area on the face to give a more realistic look.

Another Halloween look I would like to create is

Cheshire Cat

I love this look because I found this quite different and interesting to other Halloween looks. I would create this by applying the two shades to pink to the half of the face. Then paint the cat features on and colour in accordingly. Fake whiskers could be added to give it a more effective look.

Wigs :)

As part of our college course this year, we are learning how to style and fit wigs. So it is important for us to research different styles and used for wigs.


When wigs were first introduced, they weren't only worn for fashion, it represented wealth and importance, and also to protect against against weather. In the 16th century, wigs were used to protect the head from lice because of the unhygienic conditions. Now wigs are mostly used for fashion and also to cover hair loss.

          

Fantasy Makeup Looks.

One fantasy movie I would like to recreate the makeup for is 

Edward Scissorhands

I would create this look by applying white greasepaint to the entire face. Then using different shades, I would highlight and shades different areas of the face to give it that gaunt look. The using different shades, I would apply it to the eyes, in the inner corners to give depth, and finish by shaping and shading the lips. Then using wax I would shape, scars on various areas of the face.

Another fantasy movie I would recreate a look for is 

Stephen King's It

I would create this look by putting on a bald cap and painting the whole face and head with white greasepaint. Then I would apply the general clown makeup and draw in higher eyebrows. A prosthetic nose has to be applied as well. False sharp teeth can also be added to this look to make it even more scary. 

Another fantasy movie I would recreate a look for is 

Beetlejuice

I would create this look by applying white greasepaint to the entire face. Then blacken and shade the entire eyes. Then using latex I would create the mould funghi effect, and use various greens and browns to colour it and make the skin look dirty.

History of Makeup

The first use of makeup cosmetics started in Ancient Egypt, 4000 bc. Products were created using dangerous products such as mercury and white lead. Another cosmetic they used was khol, which was used to outline the eyes. It was made from lead, copper, burned almonds, soot and other ingredients. From there mkeup has progressed in different ways in different countries. What we recognise as makeup today didn't develop until the nineteenth century, and it has been improved over and over again. For example, mascara used to be made of soot and petroleum jelly, then progressed into soap and black dye. Now it is made using carbon black pigment and a variety of waxes and oils.


The era of makeup that most interests me is the 1950s.

 

I love the makeup of this time because I think it looks so classic and is still wearable today.

I like this foundation because I found it            Even though this only cost £4 I think it is quite

quite opaque and at the same time quite           good because it keeps my face really matte

light on your face. So it doesn't make me         which I like. It might not be the best make but 

feel all caked in makeup :)                            it does the job well :)

                               Maybelline Gel Eye-liner.

                              This gel liner only cost about £7 but I 

                              think it's one of the best I've tried. I've had it a 

                              few months and it hasn't dried out like some gel

                              liners do, but it's more creamy in texture.

Style Icons :)

I don't a style icon as such. I would describe my style as quite casual but different. I like unusual and quirky clothes and accessories that no-one else has :) If I did have style icons, however, they would be Lady Gaga and Hayley Williams as I find them both to have different styles to everyone else. I also believe that I share their attitude towards fashion. ie, wearing what makes you comfertable and not being fazed by other peoples criticisms :)
